What affects the cost of alloy wheel repair

The tables above show our prices for each wheel size and finish. Your final price depends on a few things, and every wheel is inspected by our team before work starts, so you know exactly what you are paying for. Here is what makes a difference.

Wheel size

Bigger wheels have more surface to strip, repair and refinish, so they take more material and more time. That is why our prices are set by wheel size, from 13 inch wheels up to 24 inch wheels. If you are not sure of your wheel size, it is printed on the side of your tyre (for example, the "18" in 225/40 R18).

The type and extent of the damage

Light kerb rash and surface scuffs only affect the outer layer of the wheel, so they are the simplest jobs. Deeper gouges that cut into the metal need filling and shaping before the wheel is refinished. Corrosion, peeling or bubbling paint means the old finish has failed, so the wheel has to be fully stripped back to bare metal first. Sometimes the inspection finds damage you could not see, such as a small crack or a slight buckle, and this is added to your quote before any work begins.

The finish you choose

The finish is one of the biggest factors in the price.

  • Standard colours: we keep many shades of silver, grey and black in stock. A custom colour, or a colour that has to be ordered in, costs extra.
  • Powder coating: the powder is baked onto the wheel, giving a tough, chip resistant finish. This is our standard refurbishment.
  • Diamond cut: the face of the wheel is machined on a special lathe to give a bright, polished look, then sealed. The extra machining is why diamond cut costs more than powder coating.
  • Special effects: tints, chrome effects and candy colours take extra time and care, so they are priced separately or on request.

All powder coating and diamond cut wheels come with our 3 year warranty. Alloy Fix is the only company to offer this.

Crack and buckle repairs

Structural repairs are charged on top of the refinish. Cracks are priced per crack and buckles per buckle, so a wheel with two cracks costs more than a wheel with one. A cracked or buckled wheel can be unsafe, so it is worth having it inspected as soon as you notice a vibration, a slow loss of tyre pressure or a visible split in the rim.

Not every crack can be repaired. It depends on where the crack is and how big it is, and our technician will assess the wheel before any welding is done. Find out more about cracked wheel repair and wheel straightening. Crack repairs come with a 1 year warranty.

How many wheels you have done

A full set of four costs less per wheel than doing them one at a time. It also gives you the most even colour match, because all four wheels are finished together. If only one wheel is damaged but the others are looking tired, it is often worth comparing the single wheel price with the set price before you decide.

Extras and add-ons

Some costs depend on how you want the job done, rather than the wheel itself:

  • Loan wheels: we can fit loan wheels so you can drive away the same day while yours are being worked on.
  • Leaving your car with us: this is included for full sets and charged for single wheels and for crack or buckle repairs.
  • Fast track: a faster service is available for refurbishments and for crack or buckle repairs, at an extra charge.
  • Protection and finishing touches: ceramic coating, caliper refurbishment, rim protectors, new centre cap badges, TPMS valves and sensors, and puncture repairs are all priced separately.

Is repair worth it compared with new wheels?

For most kerb damage, scratches and corrosion, a repair or refurbishment is worth comparing with the cost of a new wheel from your dealer, especially on larger or premium wheels. Repair keeps your original wheels on the car, which matters if you are selling your car or returning a lease car. If a wheel is too badly damaged to repair safely, our technician will tell you. For more help weighing it up, read how much alloy wheel refurbishment costs and whether it is worth it, and budget vs premium alloy repair.

Ways to keep the cost down

  • Get damage looked at early. A small scuff left alone can let water in, and corrosion under the finish means more preparation work later.
  • Do all four together if more than one wheel needs attention.
  • Check your insurance. Some car or alloy wheel insurance policies cover repairs, so it is worth reading your policy.
  • Spread the cost. Use our finance calculator to see monthly payment options.
  • Are you a key worker? See our key worker discount.

Every quote is subject to an inspection of your wheels. To get yours, find your nearest Alloy Fix workshop in Romford, Dartford or Hemel Hempstead.

Frequently asked questions

Why might my final price be different from the price list?

The price list shows our prices by wheel size and finish. Your final price also depends on the damage we find when we inspect your wheels, such as cracks or buckles, which are charged per repair, and on any extras you choose, such as a custom colour, loan wheels or fast track. We confirm everything in your quote before any work starts.

Does car insurance cover alloy wheel repair?

It depends on your policy. Some car insurance and alloy wheel insurance policies cover repairs, while others do not, so check your policy documents or ask your insurer before you book.

Can I spread the cost of alloy wheel repair?

Yes. You can use the finance calculator on our website to see monthly payment options before you decide.

Is it cheaper to repair or replace a damaged alloy wheel?

For kerb damage, scratches and corrosion, a repair or refurbishment is usually worth comparing with the cost of a new wheel from your dealer, especially for larger or premium wheels. If a wheel is too badly damaged to repair safely, our technician will tell you after inspecting it.
